In the year 2021, Neo Domino City is a "utopia", the most prominent, well-off city in the world. Following the natural disaster Zero Reverse 18 years ago, the rest of the world suffered a massive economic collapse from which it is only beginning to reestablish some sense of equilibrium. Recently, the world was exposed to the truth of the occurrence of supernatural phenomenon like the Crimson Dragon and the Earthbound Gods by way of events within Neo Domino City and its neighboring island, Satellite. The Earthbound Gods and the King of the Underworld nearly brought ruin upon the world, but were stopped by five warriors known as Signers (and one twin brother). Something akin to divine intervention has made the people of Neo-Domino City and Satellite forget the battle that occurred at their doorstep, but nothing can erase what has been set in motion by the renewal of this 5,000 year old confrontation. In other dark places, enemies both old and new begin to stir, preparing for their opportunity to succeed where the emissaries of the Underworld failed.

In Maiami City, there are numerous duel schools that teach their students the "latest and greatest evolution in dueling", Action Duels, duels where monster and duelist work together to gain advantage over their opponent and excite the audience. By far the most prestigious school for this is Leo Duel School, also known as LDS, a school where students can not only be taught by the best duelists in the world but can gain access to highly advanced summoning methods. There is, however, more hiding under the surface of LDS and Maiami City. The truth of how these summoning methods were brought to this world, the reason why Action Duels were developed, warriors from other worlds, their conflicts and their machinations and an entirely new summoning power created purely within this world are all crawling closer and closer to the surface as the ambitions of the man known as "Leo Akaba" begin to move forward.

Arc of Light is an RPG based on two anime from the Yu-Gi-Oh! series, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's and Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V. Set in the worlds established by the first 64 episodes of 5D's and thus far, the entirety of Arc-V, the story takes place across two settings, in the native world of 5D's and the "Standard" world of Arc-V.
